Heavy rainfall triggers severe waterlogging in Guwahati, Assam

Continuous rainfall since Sunday, June 16, has triggered severe waterlogging across Guwahati, bringing city life to a standstill. Major traffic jams have paralyzed Maniram Dewan Road, a crucial link between Bamunimaidan and Chandmari, due to prolonged vehicle strandings. The ongoing construction of a 6km flyover from Dighalipukhuri to Bamunimaidan has already narrowed the road, aggravating congestion worsened by the recent downpour. Areas like Hatigaon, Rukmini Gaon on GS Road, Maligaon, Beltola, Rajgarh, Nabin Nagar, and Anil Nagar have also been heavily inundated, exacerbating longstanding issues of waterlogging and sewage overflow, damaging homes and disrupting daily routines.
